a design based on references from traditional elements
Sushihana Baixa is the second Japanese restaurant we have designed for the same company. In the first project, we developed a design based on references from traditional elements of Japanese architecture and the contemporary language of architecture.
concept
The concept was based on stratifying uses and diversifying sensory experiences through the chromatic transition between the restaurant's spaces. A dark color in the circulation and service areas, and a light color in the dining areas. In this second project, we followed the same concept as the first restaurant with the intention of maintaining a sense of identity between the two restaurants.
japanese matrix
The space intended for the restaurant was an art gallery in a building from the early 20th century on Rua Galerias de Paris in the center of Porto. A complex space, quite compartmentalized, and divided into two floors, one of which was a basement. The concept of both projects is based on the same principles due to the premise of maintaining a sense of identity between the two spaces. Wooden slatted panels, the design of a traditional Japanese matrix cut into the ceiling and wall panels of the dining room, and the chromatic transition are equally present in this project."
